What is MINERAL OILS

Mineral oils are commonly utilized in various cosmetic and skincare products due to their emollient properties, which help retain skin moisture and create a protective barrier. They are often found in products like moisturizers, body lotions, lip balms, and even some hair care items. While mineral oils themselves are generally recognized as safe for external use, concerns have arisen about their potential impact on skin health, particularly when applied to sensitive areas.

One of the primary concerns with mineral oils is their occlusive nature. These oils can form a heavy barrier on the skin's surface, potentially trapping sweat, bacteria, and other impurities. For individuals with sensitive or acne-prone skin, this can lead to pore blockages, exacerbating skin conditions, or even causing breakouts. Furthermore, there's debate regarding whether mineral oils may disrupt the skin's natural processes, such as the ability to breathe or detoxify effectively. While research on this topic is ongoing, some people opt for mineral oil-free skincare products to minimize potential risks, especially if they have specific skin sensitivities or concerns.
